This iconic electric compressor had gone untouched for over 15 years—despite being a proven workhorse with millions produced annually in the U.S. When it came time for a redesign, I saw an opportunity to respect its legacy while rethinking every user-facing detail through the lens of industrial design.
I kept the recognizable tank silhouette but reimagined everything around it. I introduced a cleaner, more modern layout aligned with DEWALT’s bold visual language—tough, deliberate, and unmistakably pro. The handle was completely redesigned for improved ergonomics and better balance, with careful attention to center of gravity for easier lifting and transport.
The cord wrap was simplified and made more intuitive, and the air pressure controls were reworked for a smoother, more straightforward user experience. The result is a compressor that feels familiar—but looks sharper, works better, and is built to meet the expectations of today’s demanding users.
